Cabrillo College

During the Fall semester of 2003, I was an adjunct faculty member at Cabrillo College, the community college serving Santa Cruz County along California's central coast.  For the College, I taught ENGL 100: Elements of Writing.  This was a completely new challenge for me, as some of my students were still learning English, many were unsure of their future goals, and all were in my class to remediate their writing skills.  I happily found success, though, and watching my students' writing improve over the course of the term was very rewarding.  Various writing assignments and in-class activities engaged my students to write daily, and to write well.

Georgiana Bruce Kirby Prep

During the 2003-2004 academic year, I was the Latin teacher at Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory School, in Santa Cruz, CA.  In addition to teaching Latin at all levels, including AP (all of my AP students passed the AP exam with scores of 4 or 5), I also taught a seventh grade class, Introduction to Foreign Language, which helped build strong study skills and an interest in foreign language study (specifically for Spanish, French, and Latin, but with a purview to all language study) before they chose one of the school's languages as 8th graders.
